The annual industry figures showed 13.4% growth in subscribers for broadband internet – now accounting for 21.5 million connections across Europe – and 21% growth in Digital Television subscribers to 21.5 million. The meeting, on September 24 in Brussels, was attended by senior executives from some of the region's largest cable operators. It coincided with forecasts that continued strong demand would help lift industry revenues by 11% in the current year.

Cable Europe, the industry association representing Europe's leading cable operators, today welcomed the decision of the European Commission to address the monopolistic way in which copyright collecting societies are organised in Europe (the CISAC case).
Cable Europe called for a new copyright collecting system that stimulates the development of new digital content services. Cable provides digital TV, super fast Internet and telephony services to more than 73 million customers in Europe.
Cable operators in Europe regard the Commission's decision as a first step in the right direction. But the industry is now seeking further action to create a new simple, efficient and homogeneous system throughout Europe that drastically reduces legal uncertainty and incremental costs associated with copyright management. This would stimulate trade in content to the benefit of both music authors and cable operators.

Amsterdam (Netherlands) - September 7, 2006: EuroCableLabs, the technical centre of excellence for the European cable industry, announced it will be ready to provide the first DOCSIS® 3.0 certification for new cable modems as soon as March 2008. The testing process prior to the certification will start January 2008. DOCSIS® 3.0 enables cable operators to offer significantly higher data rates to their broadband customers: downstream data rates of 200 Mbps or higher and upstream data rates of 120 Mbps or higher. The association was previously known as ECCA, an abbreviation for European Cable Communications Association. Together with its new name, the Association adopts a new corporate identity. Vienna February 28, 2006: Today, the European Cable Communications Association (ECCA) announced that Manuel Cubero has been elected as President of ECCA. Manuel Cubero is a Managing Director and Member of the Board of Kabel Deutschland, the leading German cable operator. He replaces Bernard Cottin who will become Vice President of ECCA. This has been decided by ECCA's General Assembly, held at the 52nd annual ECCA Congress in Vienna. The ECCA Congress has a long standing tradition in bringing together senior managers from the European cable industry.
