EuroPacketCable - Digital Telephony and Multimedia Services

Guaranteed quality of service

Telephone adapters, set top boxes and other devices based on EuroPacketCable technology allow cable operators to provide IP telephony and multimedia services with a guaranteed quality of service.

EuroPacketCable is based on the CableLabs PacketCable® specifications (www.packetcable.com). There is no difference between EuroPacketCable and PacketCable other than the physical specification of a European cable network compared to a US cable network.

One frequency channel on a European cable network has a spectrum of 8Mhz, while a US cable network uses 6 Mhz per channel. Additionally, the EuroPacketCable specifications take into account the interoperability issues for European telephony devices and third party telephone networks.

Digital cable telephony:
A telephony services with the flexibility and features of IP telephony and with a guaranteed quality of service. EuroPacketCable digital cable telephony also works well in combination with conventional non-IP telephone technologies.

Development

Cable Europe Labs closely cooperates with European cable operators and vendors to meet their requirements for a robust EuroPacketCable architecture. Next to this, Cable Europe Labs joins forces with CableLabs to further develop PacketCable / EuroPacketCable specifications. This allows for the specific needs of the European cable operators to be integrated in this technology from its inception.

Cable Europe Labs cooperation with CableLabs allows to integrate the European requirements into the PacketCable specifications. This trans-Atlantic cooperation aims to stimulate the further development of world standards for cable technology.

Difference between EuroPacketCable and EuroDOCSIS

There is no EuroPacketCable without EuroDOCSIS, because:

Than EuroPacketCable technology allows to create IP services on the IP enabled cable network
